Academic ProgramsCertificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation The Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation program is designed to inspire and teach students in all majors to be innovators and entrepreneurs, whether they choose careers in start-up ventures or large organizations. Through academic courses and experiential programs, students learn the theory and practice related to starting and running new business ventures. Upon completion of the requirements, students receive an official certificate and it is recorded on their academic transcripts. Entrepreneurial Learning Community (ELC) The Entrepreneurial Learning Community is designed for incoming freshmen with a strong interest in entrepreneurship in addition to their chosen academic degree objective. Student cohorts live in a common residence hall, are scheduled in the same class divisions, and enjoy extra activities related to entrepreneurship. ELC students enroll directly into the first two courses required for the Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Social Entrepreneurship Initiative (SEI) SEI offers students the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship by focusing on the commercialization of products they have developed in partnership with a non-profit or global partner. Student teams participate in an Idea to Product® (I2P™) Competitions, where prototypes and market analyses are presented to judges who select those with the best chance of commercial success. Interns for Indiana (IfI) IfI places high quality student interns with start-up companies, in an effort to accelerate company growth, provide students with valuable educational experiences, and keep high quality students in Indiana after graduation. Students also participate in a 1-credit seminar series which explores entrepreneurial issues and skills. |
The Discovery Park Undergraduate Research Internship DURI involves Purdue undergraduates in the innovative interdisciplinary research environment of Discovery Park. The program provides opportunities for students to work with faculty on cutting edge research projects. Biomedship Biomedship is an educational program for biomedical engineering and MBA students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship in the context of biomedical technology. Students learn how to identify new opportunities for innovation, assess clinical and market potential, and take the critical first steps in invention, patenting, early prototyping, development of new concepts, and movement toward commercialization. The program consists of coursework and a seminar series involving lectures and discussions led by top thinkers in the U.S. medical device industry. Technology Realization Program (TRP) The Technology Realization Program teaches graduate students the principles for moving ideas and technologies emerging from the lab bench out to the marketplace. Students learn the challenges of managing the development and introduction of new ideas/technologies along with starting and managing new business ventures. CompetitionsBurton D. Morgan Business Plan Competition Purdue University's Burton D. Morgan Competition, created in 1987, is the third oldest business plan competition in the country. Purdue Life Sciences Business Plan Competition The Life Sciences Business Plan Competition was developed to highlight breakthrough life science technologies and provide a forum for inventors, students, academics, and industry to enhance the life science innovation process via education and networking opportunities. Elevator Pitch Competition The Certificate Program’s Elevator Pitch Competition provides students and entrepreneurs from Purdue Research Park the opportunity to pitch their business ventures in two minutes or less to a panel of judges for cash prizes. Entrepreneurship ClubsKrannert Entrepreneurship and Venture Club (KEVC) The Krannert Entrepreneurship and Venture Club is dedicated to providing students the knowledge and resources associated with launching a new business. KEVC accomplishes this goal by providing guest speakers, networking opportunities, advice on business plan preparation, access to start-up capital, and an opportunity for MBA students to play a role in Discovery Park's Center for Entrepreneurship. Agricultural Innovation and Commercialization Center The AICC is one of ten innovation centers across the U.S. funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.
